Language

How can I change the language to English? All I see is German!
Select the button that says "Einstellungen". At the first window you see, select "(EN) English" from the drop down menu. Don't forget to save the settings by clicking the button marked "Speichern". (Note: You may have to clear the cache or restart the browser to get the effect working.)

Races

What's the difference between the races?
There's not a big difference, the races are almost even. The values you can see are the starting value for each commander.

Commander

Why do I need commander? What for?
A commander will guide all people of your planets - or control your fleets. Based on the background of your race, every commander starts with a different set of attributes:
Every attribute will give a small bonus on it's skill. Examples:
  • "Trade" will slightly decrease the taxes you may have to pay - for each skill point spent.
  • "Research" lowers the fuel consumption of your fleet or sligthly decreases the time to research a new technology
  • "Battle" will improve your battle skills and damage.
  • "Construction" slightly decreases the time required to construct a new building.
  • "Economy" gain more resources of your facilities.
  • "Navigation" improves the manoeuvring skill of ships during battle and warp.

How do I level up my commander? I can only set the points for my main commander by clicking on my home planet icon!
They level up automatically at night, if they collected enough experience. Commanders get experience by construction of things, researching the outer space, trading, fighting, flying... They set their skill points automatically in the area they used most while collecting experience.
Howdy! Where are all my credits gone?
Maybe you did not pay attention to all those 500 researchers and commanders, who gained level after level - and more money from your bank account...

Research

Why does the timer count upwards?
The timer indicates the elapsed time not the time till research will be finished. It simulates the uncertainty of real life researches where you never know when a project will be successfully completed.
How long does it take to research XXX?
This depends on your number and level or researchers mainly. The more skill points they have (together), the faster is the research. You can guess how long it will take to finish a project by the difficulty:
  • Trivial ~ up to 1 hour
  • Very easy ~ up to 16 hours
  • Easy ~ up to 24 hours
  • Simple ~ up to 2 days
  • Medium ~ up to 4 days
  • Heavy ~ up to 6 days
  • Very difficult ~ up to 9 days
  • Complicated ~ up to 11 days
  • Challenge ~ better don't try
  • Unlikely ~ don't even try
My researcher is already level 12, wooohooo!
Well, if he is level 12 in chassis (or any other single skill), that's great. If he is level 12 and his education is divided into different skills - send him to the auctioneer.
My researcher is bad? ...why?
Because with every level, it takes (much) longer to train him. The (time) calculation is based on his level, not on his single skill you are going to train. Example: A level 1 researcher with 1 point in weapons requires 6 hours to reach level 2 with 2 points in weapons. A level 12 researcher with 11 points in something and 1 point in weapons will take over a day to reach level 13 but he has only 2 points in weapons, too.
How many researchers can work at the same time?
You can always research on one project only. The number of researchers depends on your ReaFac-building level. Level 1 = 1 researcher, level 3 = 2 researcher, level 5 = 3... and so on.
How do I level up my researchers?
The most important building is the university. Make sure it's always busy. You can train new researchers, or skill up your current ones. Every training will take (much) longer than the previous one. The time for the training is based on the level of the researcher, not on the skill attribute he's learning.
The second way to level up your little friends is to work on a research project. Depending on the difficulty of the project, all attending researchers can gain a level when the project is finished. (In particular, they gain experience even if they don't level up directly, so the next research will boost him/her to the next level.)
Queue?
Keep your research queue filled, as long as you have the beginners PA bonus - or a paid Premium Looki Account. When a research project is finished while you are offline, the next project of the queue will be started automatically - with the best (fitting) researchers selected. The CPU will not create new mixed guys, don't be afraid.
If you change your research project manually - don't forget to select the right researchers - or YOU will create a mixed one!
Percentages
0% - 2.6% The exploration of new technology gets started now!
2.6% - 5.2% The beginnings are always the hardest, but our research launch went smoothly.
5.2% - 11% Taking small technical difficulties aside, our work so far is almost no problem.
11% - 16% We are above the concept phase now and trying the first technology prototypes.
16% - 21% There are still small setbacks we always balance, but that does not keep us far from our goal from the research.
21% - 26% The first quarter we have behind us, slowly but surely our ideas become reality.
26% - 32% We successfully have slipped the indications of several experts in the research, allowing us to perfect the technology even further.
32% - 37% There had to be made subtle changes to the basic design of the technology, so she may be delayed under some circumstances.
37% - 42% Major problems now belong to the past, we are now ready to take the technology outside of laboratory conditions.
42% - 47% The first test failed, but our researchers have already discovered the error and fix it.
47% - 53% Most give up on the half way, when great research won't work correctly, but we will not get down.
53% - 58% More than the half of the planned research has already passed and we are nearing the first test of the prototypes, that are still under construction.
58% - 63% The many hours of hard work are paying off now, despite several setbacks - the prototype seems to be working smoothly.
63% - 68% We have assigned several teams of researchers to identify and eradicate any bugs in the technology, so we can prevent failures later in the future.
68% - 74% There were no significant problems during the troubleshooting, that should be reported, so we are able now to prepare the last stage of research wholeheartedly.
74% - 79% The final spurt begins, it can not be long before we have the research done.
79% - 84% The final tests are proceeding on schedule, we are ready to stick to the time frame.
84% - 89% The bulk of the research is already behind us, now we have to focus on fine-tuning concentrated.
89% - 95% Our researchers are still working under high pressure.
95% - 99% The new technology will be available soon.
99% - 100% Our research is done within the next few minutes!
How to calculate how much time you still have before the end of the research?
left time = passed time / amount of % * 100 - passed time
Example: 37% done after a day and 18 hours:
(1D*24h + 18h) / 37 * 100 - (1D*24h + 18h) = 71 hours left.

Construction

How can I build a building?
Follow the tutorial. But how do I bui... FOLLOW the TUTORIAL!
I can't build a special building, my friend was talking about. How can I build it?
Make sure your friend is not making fun of you. If he's not - you probably lack the requirements in research. Do more research...
What should I build first? And second?
Well, start as you do in most games: Follow the tutorial - after which you will have to make sure that you always have enough resources. => Your construction focus should be your resource income and research. (Read Research). Don't forget: Trading is also income. Sell those resources you are good in (Trading Port Level 2) - and buy the ones you can't mine on yourself.
My Iron is only at 25% and I already built 50 mines. It's still bad. What can I do?
Don't waste mines on bad resources. Focus on the good ones. Just make sure to supply the demand of your people. Then go and trade.

Expansion

How do I conquer other planets?
You can colonize up to 4 other planets in addition to your home world, making 5 planets in total. You will need a ship that is equiped with a colonization module for that. The colonization module will need to be researched in research facility lvl5 (or higher) and needs to be placed into a corvette or bigger chassis. Don't forget the warp engine (e.g. DX1) if you want to colonize outside of your star system!
But I want to take away other people's planet...
Simply said, you can't. You may invade them and steal their resources though. See also Ground Battle

Ships and fleets

What is this fleet doing at my planet and how can I control it?
The Galactic Armada is your newbie protection. It is an invincible NPC controlled fleet that will keep you safe of hostile attacks for 30 days. It won't actively attack though and you can not use it to fight other players.
When can I build a trade/colonization/battle ship?
In EU2 all ships are modular. That means they don't follow a specific purpose. You can build your ships in (almost) any setup you like. You won't find a predefined trade ship with a specific amount of cargo or the uber-battleship that vaporized all others. To build a ship you need to research the components you want to fit in, mainly a chassis, an engine and any extras like weapons, shields, cargo bay, colonization module etc. Probes are the only exception to this rule.
What can I do with a probe?
With these, you can probe, explore, and look around. It cannot attack, colonize, or mine.
How can I refit my ship - or add other stuff to it?
You need the building called "Dock". Before you can build it, you have to research "Dock". Yes, we are talking about a dock. Neither a duck, nor the building "Dockyard".

Battles

Space Battles

How do I fight?
Create a space ship with at least one weapon and an engine. Make sure that you do not try to attack with your trader ship... Anyway, seek another player's fleet and select "Piracy" as "Special Mission" at your fleet menu. Fly to exactly the same position of your enemies fleet. After you arrived, the fight will automatically start.

Ground Battle

Basic battle rules:
Have more troops on your ships than your enemy has at the planet.

Trade

What does the "commerce" message mean?
There was an NPC trader at your trade port and sold you the goods which you configured to import (TP1)- and hopefully bought the goods you configured to export (TP2). Sell your overproduction, buy your missing resources.
How do I buy resources ?
Two ways: Build an Trade Port - and configure your "import" settings - or choose the tab "auctions" at the tradeport and try to buy stuff from other players. There's an NPC trader coming every x-hours and buying / selling resources.
In addition you can fly to other planets and buy their export goods - if you arrive with an empty cargo ship and enough credits.
How do I sell resources?
Upgrade the trade port to level 2. Now you get a new tab, where you can export resources.
Also, you can sell to other player if you enable the option "trade with players" at the "overview" tab.

Empires

How do I join or create an empire?
Do the research for all major buildings at your home planet. When you built the government building, the diplomacy button will become active and allow the creation/join of an empire.
